Vancouver 2 July

  • Arrival -  24 hours travel ex Sydney - was a great relief , as was being met & transported by Ben,Gwen & Lizzie to Chilliwack ( near Canada/US border) .Here we are being hosted by Jacob & Ben pending the homecoming of Lyn & Jim (their parents)from the east.. After a couple of days to recover from the jet lag we set off with Lizzie to the Sunshine Coast just north of the city.A  2hr drive took us to Horseshoe Bay to get the ferry & we had moved from city to a landscape dominated by sea & trees with a snow capped mountain backdrop. A 40 minute sailing took us to Langdale & the Sunshine Coast , 100kms of small secluded bays & townships embedded in temperate rainforest. We were staying 2 nights in Pender Harbour (1 hour north) in a small resort overlooking the harbour. The resort was beautiful & had an excellent restaurant on site so we ventured no further than there for the rest of the day.
  • Next day we set off north with no destination iin mind but decided en route to go to Egmont for the forest walk to Skoookumchuck Narrrows a tidal rapid which is a very impressive view  as the tide turns which it did while we were there. Our final morning was spent in the "spa garden"( sauna, jacuzzi, salt water plunge pool ) & very relaxing before heading back to the ferry & Chilliwack..
  • The next day was Lizzie's last & was spent driving to the Bridal Vail recreational area to see the falls of the same name which were spectacular due to the recent volume of rain locally.
