After our Mount Baker excursion we were game for more outdoors and loaded up 3 bikes on Jim's truck & set off for the Othello Tunnels. This part of the long disused kettle Valley Railway is now part of the Trans Canada Trail and as it is an old railway bed is a very uniform gradient up the valley following the Coquihalla river . The tunnels (5) and the bridges (3) that join them were quite a feat of engineering in their day (1914) and are still very impressive today as they thread their way through a canyon a couple of hundred feet deep. You can also as you can see from the photo clamber down the side of the canyon to see the rapids close up. The return ride only requires a couple of turns of the pedals & one can coast all the way down although it can be a little unnerving when the sun is fulll in your eyes for a few seconds & you cant see anything coming !
