Our arrival was uneventful on the island apart from the look of our pre booked hotel which was somewhere betwen french chateau & high Eurodisney - see photolater - with a overlay of maintenance deficiencies that would not be out of place in Fawlty Towers. Our room turned out to be a 2 bed 2 bath apartment where everything that we needed worked & included an average buffet breakfast. There was also 2 restaurants - 1 wet 1 dry - and a reasonably sized infinity pool for our daily exercise. The redeeming feature was that the staff were very helpful & invariably smiley which made up for the other shortcomings. The "lagoon" behind the hotel was home to fish, kingfishers and seemingly lots of monitor lizards some as big as 6 foot. We found one one night jamming itself in a storm drain presumably in search of prey such as a tasty rat. The local restaurants specialised in seafood and we tried several types of fish - steamed in tom yum our favourite - & lovely soft shell crab . Our favourite was called the "Wonderland Food Store" where we had 4 excellent meals .After a lovely lazy week here tomorrow we are on a short hop flight to Penang for 3 nights as it is easier to pick up the night train to our next destination in Thailand Hua Hin.
Looking forward to seeing the photo of the hotel!
