After a 35 minute flight we arrived in Penang is another small island but with much more of interest culturally and historically. There is a relatively well preserved old town where only a few tall modern buildings interrupt the skyline of 19th & early 20th century chinese & colonial buildings. It has a very diverse mix of cultures from ethnic malays, chinese and indian with the mix of religions & temples/mosques & churches that these support . We really enjoyed wandering round the old town & ending up in Little India with a meal indistinguishable in taste & price from those we had in India. As we are still having trouble with train booking we are flying out tomorrow to Phuket for 4 nights and will plan our Thai travels from there.
